Ingibjörg H. Bjarnason: First female member of the Icelandic parliament, 1922-1930

I find it rather hard to fathom why it was only this year, 74 years after this remarkable woman died, that she was honoured with a statue.

It was unveiled on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of women’s voting rights in Iceland.



Memorial to an unknown official


This statue, The Unknown Official, stood for years in a backyard behind the bakery in Lækjargata. Two years ago it was moved and now stands out in the open on the bank of the Pond by the Iðnó theatre and looks like it’s heading towards City Hall. The artist is Magnús Tómasson.
