Coprinus comatus, aka shaggy ink cap, lawyer’s wig, or shaggy mane

These weird and wondrous life-forms, called “bleksveppir” in Icelandic (literally: “ink mushrooms”) are usually the first obvious sign that autumn is on the way. They begin to pop up in the period from late August to mid-September and are very noticeable on some of the green verges and traffic islands in Reykjav√≠k. Their season is almost over, but you can still see a few hanging on:
