You’d be excused for thinking it’s Valentine’s Day in Iceland today

… but today is Konudagur (Woman’s Day). The month of Þorri ended at midnight and Góa began. Just as women do something nice for the men in their lives on Bóndadagur (literally “Farmer’s Day”, but nowadays interpreted as Man’s Day), men are expected to repay the favour by doing something nice for their women.

Valentine’s Day falls in-between the two celebrations. It’s a recent import that flower shops and chocolate sellers are eager to have us celebrate as well but it has been adamantly resisted by many, who favour the Bóndadagur and Konudagur traditions. But really, when you think about it: why not celebrate Valentine’s Day as  well? You can never have too much chocolate, right? 😉
