Álftaver pseudocraters

Pseudocraters or rootless cones are an interesting geological phenomenon that can be found in several locations in Iceland. Álftaver is one of these places. The craters there are protected. They are overgrown with moss and other low-growing vegetation, which gives the landscape a velvety and somewhat otherworldly feel. The occasional track through the area breaks up the smoothness. These eyesore tracks look like scars on the landscape and make for a powerful argument against off-road driving.
