Blackbird and starling feeding

My parents have a bird feeder in their backyard. It is frequented by a big, fat redwing, a blackbird and some starlings. The redwing drives away all other redwings and starlings, snow buntings and other birds that try to visit, but tolerates the blackbird, probably because it’s a bigger bird, but even one starling can drive away the timid blackbird. That’s what happened when I took these shots. First the blackbird came and started feasting on an apple, and then the starling appeared and the blackbird took refuge in a nearby tree until the cocky little starling was gone, and then returned to the feeding station:
